MYTH

You will gain access to my subconscious and be able to read or control my thoughts.

REALITY

A hypnotic suggestion cannot make you do anything that your own moral code of ethics would otherwise forbid i.e. that you don’t want to do. A person may claim to have been under the influence of a hypnotist when doing something silly like, walking like a chicken or barking like a dog but free will cannot be taken from you under hypnosis. People are different and will react to situations differently but they always react in a manner that corresponds with their own personal code of conduct.

MYTH

I will get ‘stuck’, being unable to withdraw from the trance state until the hypnotist commands it.

REALITY

Stories of hypnotists leaving their clients in a state of deep, unshakable sleep are of course, nonsense. Sorry! A client can choose to leave their trance whenever they wish, perfectly capable of functioning just as fully as they did beforehand. Hypnotherapy is not magic and it isn’t certainly mind control. It isn’t dangerous or threatening and it cannot damage us. It can just help us to get to where we want to be in life.

It’s not the events in our lives that make us stressed, it’s how we think about them
The brain cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality
